Fixing bad screen issue on Eken M001 Android tablet

Fixing a screen issue on Eken M001 7" Android tablet.

Got Eken M001 in the mail the other day. Unfortunately screen looked like it was running in 16 color mode, pressing the back of the unit would cause colors to change, half the times I would not see anything on the screen but a thin white cross in the middle, or some green stripes. Got an advice from http://www.slatedroid.com that this might be because of the poorly connected screen. So here are the steps that I went through to fix this issue. Remember to be very careful when you try this and do not apply too much pressure.

Step 1. Put it down, and turn it off.

Step 2. Put it face down.

Step 3. Locate two screws on the bottom of the case.

Step 4. Take those screws out using a phillips-head screwdriver (one found in glasses repair kit will work)

Step 5. Here is a funky part. You will need to take the case off without breaking the screen or clips that hold the case together. A tricky clip is the one at the bottom
(right bellow the USB connector). Use a tiny screwdriver to pry this one open first.

Notice the location of the clips on the back of the case. Keep in mind that speaker above might be glued to the back of the case.

Note where the clips are on the back of the case and pry the case open starting with the bottom and the sides, then get the top clips. If you got strong nails that will work, if not a credit card or a guitar pick will do.
Do NOT push anything in under the case further then 1-2mm, otherwise you are risking cracking the motherboard.

Step 6. Look inside and cuss. You will see loose tape, hot glue all over the board, and poorly connected cables.

Step 7. This is what you are looking for. The little black pin that connects screen to the board (or both of them) is not pushed all the way in.

Use twizzlers (unless you got nails) to push the connector in place.

Picture BEFORE

and AFTER the fix.

Step 8. Turn your tablet on and check that Eken M001's screen is now working how it should. If it is - put the back back on (pun!) and grab yourself a beer.

Mozhno konechno pisat' latinicej i delat' vid, chto eto sovershenno normal'no. Na moj vzglyad,

Tools > Add-Ons > Get Add-ons > Browse All Add-ons.

"Add to Firefox".

Firefox.

Tools>Transliterator Options.
